New Moon

new moonYesterday, I got to see the movie New Moon. I loved it.  Of course, this book was my favorite of all four Twilight books.  I’m a Jacob fan.

I thought the acting was better in this movie than in Twilight. I could actually understand what Kristen Stewart was saying most of the time – not so much mumbling.  I also loved that Dakota Fanning was in this movie, but I wish her part had been bigger.

It was interesting to see the wide vary of people in the theater – teens, children, women from 20 to 60, and even MEN!  I wonder if they came because they HAD to or because they wanted to see what the hoopla was all about.

Favorite scene – when Bella tells Jacob that she loves him, but that it has always been Edward.

Biggest laugh – when a girl somewhere in the audience reacted to the first time Jacob takes off his shirt

Watch for the release of Eclipse next June.

New TVI have been thinking and working on this project since last May.  Finally, it is almost ready to launch.  Library TV will be shown on a brand new 40″ flat screen HD television.  The programming will include things such as book trailers, author interviews, announcements, an RSS news feed, images of teachers and students as they posed for READ posters, and more.  Anything that pertains to and promotes our library will be featured.

Right now I am taking student volunteers to film short, 20 second videos of book recommendations.  Anyone who would like to participate in this should talk to me. Also, I have several student made book trailers that will be included in the programming.  Students who are interested in multi-media production should talk to me about having their creations included too.  I am excited to see what you will create!

Change of HeartChange of Heart by Jodi Picoult

I love the way Jodi Picoult always has a plot twist at the end of her books.  You never know the whole story until the very end.  This book did not disappoint me.  I was drawn to it because it deals with organ transplantation.  Since my husband is a heart transplant recipient, I am interested in anything about that topic.

In this story, a man convicted of murdering a little girl wants to donate his heart upon his execution to save the life of the girl’s sister.  Picoult makes the reader consider the issues of repentence, capital punishment, organ donation, and pedophilia.  Even with such heavy topics, this book was enjoyable.

trouble

Trouble by Gary D. Schmidt

The Smith family seemed to have it all – wealth, respect, private schools, an historic Massachusetts home.  Mr. Smith always told the family that if you build your home far away from Trouble, that nothing bad could happen.  Then tragedy struck.  Teenaged Henry watches as his family seems to fall apart. Now they must deal with prejudice, racism, hospitals, and hatred.  Can the family survive?  I recommend this book to both boys and girls.  Very good!

very valentine

Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani

Valentine Roncalli’s family has been making custom wedding shoes for generations, but now the family business is in peril of bankruptcy. While reading this book, I learned many things about leather, trims, and shoe design.  And I also enjoyed the nice love story. Trigiani fans will enjoy this one.  On a side note, the movie version of Trigiani’s Big Stone Gap will be released later this year.

devils paintbox

The Devil’s Paintbox by Victoria McKernan

For all you folks who love historical fiction, this is an enjoyable read.  Set in 1865 in drought-stricken Kansas, this story is about two orphans and their journey across country on a wagon train.  Death, disease, Indians, and starvation plague Maddy and Aiden.  Their will to survive is great, but will it be enough?  Both guys and girls will like this book.

adoration of jenna fox

The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson

Jenna wakes after an 18-month coma to find that her family has moved to another state and things just aren’t the same.  Jenna begins to remember things that she shouldn’t be able to remember.  And she hears voices of old friends who have died.  Jenna begins to suspect her scientist father has something to do with all these strange new things.  The book asks the question – How far would you go to save someone you love?  Very good!

shift

Chris and his rich friend Win take off on a cross-country bike ride right after high school graduation.  Along the way, things begin to change between the two boys.  When Chris returns home without Win, the family hires an investigator to find out what has happened to their son.  Of course, they suspect Chris has done something terrible.  Will they every find out what really happened to Win?  Great book for guys.
