Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult
I love the way Jodi Picoult always has a plot twist at the end of her books. You never know the whole story until the very end. This book did not disappoint me. I was drawn to it because it deals with organ transplantation. Since my husband is a heart transplant recipient, I am interested in anything about that topic.
In this story, a man convicted of murdering a little girl wants to donate his heart upon his execution to save the life of the girl’s sister. Picoult makes the reader consider the issues of repentence, capital punishment, organ donation, and pedophilia. Even with such heavy topics, this book was enjoyable.

Trouble by Gary D. Schmidt
The Smith family seemed to have it all – wealth, respect, private schools, an historic Massachusetts home. Mr. Smith always told the family that if you build your home far away from Trouble, that nothing bad could happen. Then tragedy struck. Teenaged Henry watches as his family seems to fall apart. Now they must deal with prejudice, racism, hospitals, and hatred. Can the family survive? I recommend this book to both boys and girls. Very good!

Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani
Valentine Roncalli’s family has been making custom wedding shoes for generations, but now the family business is in peril of bankruptcy. While reading this book, I learned many things about leather, trims, and shoe design. And I also enjoyed the nice love story. Trigiani fans will enjoy this one. On a side note, the movie version of Trigiani’s Big Stone Gap will be released later this year.

The Devil’s Paintbox by Victoria McKernan
For all you folks who love historical fiction, this is an enjoyable read. Set in 1865 in drought-stricken Kansas, this story is about two orphans and their journey across country on a wagon train. Death, disease, Indians, and starvation plague Maddy and Aiden. Their will to survive is great, but will it be enough? Both guys and girls will like this book.

And she hears voices of old friends who have died. Jenna begins to suspect her scientist father has something to do with all these strange new things. The book asks the question – How far would you go to save someone you love? Very good!
